I’m Luke Summerhayes and I love Bruxish.
Triggerfish are a family of fish with small but powerful jaws. Their name comes from the complex structure of their spine bones, which lock into place and then shoot closed like the trigger on a crossbow, giving the fish the power to bite into shelled prey. Many of them have interesting colors and patterns.
The Reef Triggerfish in particular is the state fish of Hawai- with a Hawaiian name I’m not even going to try to pronounce, sorry. This species uses their teeth and fins to produce various loud grinding and snapping sounds, marking their territory, scaring predators and attracting mates.
Bruxish is a water and psychic Pokemon, a triggerfish of a much more psychedelic pattern like the tie dye t-shirt worn by someone offering you some substances that might have an effect very similar to a psychic attack. It also copies the real life Reef Triggerfish’s noises.
Sun
When it unleashes its psychic power from the protuberance on its head, the grating sound of grinding teeth echoes through the area.

Scarlet
It grinds its teeth with great force to stimulate its brain. It fires the psychic energy created by this process from the protuberance on its head.
The name Bruxish refers to Bruxism, the grinding of teeth. The Japanese name, Hagigishiri, refers to the same thing as well as to the species of fish.

As well as attacking power, Bruxish can use this weird behavior for defensive purposes.
Violet
When sunlight reflects on the ripples created by a Bruxish grinding its teeth, the water all around sparkles brilliantly.

This is replicated in-game by the ability Dazzling, which prevents opponents using priority moves like quick attack or the competitive mainstay Fake Out. Combined with nice speed and attack, Bruxish is a good Pokemon for sneaking past traditional opening plays.
There are a lot of different fish Pokemon, just as there are a lot of different fish in the real sea. Bruxish looks wacky, brings a unique typing and a special skill set – surely enough to be heard over the noise?
